HVDC-WISE participated in EPRI European Workshop Week held in Lisbon from April 16th to 18th. Representing the project, Paul McNamara from EPRI Europe engaged in the workshop “How to Accelerate Transmission Development: The Need for Speed” on April 18th.
As part of the panel on Coordinating Grid Planning for Speed, Paul McNamara introduced the project’s objectives, timeline, and current achievements. He emphasized the work dedicated to addressing reliability and resilience needs (as evident in Deliverable 2.1) and the device modelling and tools development needs (D4.1 and D5.1 respectively), where the team is currently refining the R&R analysis framework and enhancing adequacy-oriented functionalities.
EPRI Europe’s Technical Leader also outlined the three primary use cases spanning the EU mainland, UK mainland, and EU-UK offshore grid. Initial specifications for these use cases have been established, and the project is currently evaluating a range of HVDC architectures for these grids, which should be completed by 2025.
Additionally, he highlighted the project’s focus on control and protection aspects and anticipated forthcoming dissemination milestones.
EPRI European Workshop Week stands as EPRI’s main collaborative event in Europe, fostering an environment for industry leaders and experts to converge and exchange insights. In its eighth edition, the event drew over 250 attendees from nearly 90 companies spanning Europe, the Middle East, and even a few from the US.
