HVDC-WISE Reaches The Final Year

Europe’s power system is evolving quickly. More renewables, electrification, and growing reliability expectations are increasing the need for hybrid AC/DC grids that can operate securely under a wider range of conditions. HVDC‑WISE is supporting this shift by developing the tools, methods, and evidence base needed to accelerate wider HVDC deployment across Europe and Great Britain.

Our latest consortium update highlights steady progress across several core areas. Work is advancing control and protection approaches to strengthen system performance and support robust operation as HVDC becomes more embedded in interconnected networks. In parallel, the project is improving interoperable modelling methods, helping align analysis across platforms and study workflows so results can be compared and applied more consistently.

HVDC‑WISE is also expanding reliability and resilience analytics, with enhanced capabilities to explore disturbance scenarios and assess system behaviour under stress. Building on that, the project is strengthening cascading‑failure simulation methods to better understand how disruptions may propagate and which mitigation strategies are most effective.

To support practical uptake, HVDC‑WISE continues to extend open‑source planning tools, helping translate research outcomes into usable resources for the wider HVDC community.

More results and validated tools will be shared as project work progresses.
